Alternative Ways to get Fit

Alternative Ways to get Fit

We’re in the fourth month of the year already and believe us, we’re just as shocked as you are. It feels like just last week that we said goodbye to another year and hello to our resolutions… Yes, those promises we made to become a better version of ourselves in the new year. How’s yours looking? Got around to it yet? We’re not sure who made the resolution rules, but we don’t understand why only the new year should bring a new you. We believe that now is as good as time as any to make good on the top two resolutions of every new year: losing weight and getting into shape.

You might think that those two are virtually the same but we can assure you they’re not – although they do mostly go hand in hand. At the core though, the one is as simple as improving your eating habits and the other is about getting active. Ideally, you would want to do a combination of the two.

First thing’s first. You need to get your eating habits right. At the end of the day, the only way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit i.e. taking in less calories than you burn. Without getting into too much detail, the long and the short of it is that your body needs resources to function. It gets these resources from the calories you consume. Once you take in less calories than your body needs to function, your body will source the energy it needs from stored fat. Because, the body is smart like that.

The easiest way to achieve this is to know how much calories you need to function for your specific body type, weight and level of activeness and take in less calories than that or burn the excess through exercise – so simple. The most important thing though, is to cut out the “bad” food. And how do you do that? Easy, you visit Dis-Chem and shop their “Free From” range. It’s “free from” all the unhealthy stuff which will springboard your weight loss journey. Alternatively, it’s as simple as staying away from packaged foods that are loaded with preservatives. AKA the “fresh” food counter at the Pick n Pay or Woolworths.

Once you’ve got your eating sorted you need to look at getting that 20% done. That is if you want to go from normal-looking to that superhero physique many people strive for.

The most conventional way of getting exercise in is to join a gymnasium. Luckily, you don’t have to look far in order to find one – we’re your spotter. My Gym is conveniently located at your favourite shopping destination. The well-trained staff, flexible membership plans, and straight shooter training programmes you’ll be certain to find a reason to want to join. Go and do it today.

Traditional gyms aren’t for everyone though, we get that. That is why we also want to plant the seed for getting into shape in some alternative ways:

Yes. That trampoline park we’ve got in our centre isn’t just a play park pastime for kids and teens. The simple rhythmic jumping on strong fabric stretched between spring coils, engages every muscle and stimulates every cell producing amazing healing and rejuvenating effects. It has been proven that trampolining aids in weight loss, increases bone density (which combats osteoporosis) and improve balance and coordination to name but a few benefits. But most of all, IT’S FUN! With all these advantages in mind, it would only make sense to combine the joys of jumping with a fitness class, which is exactly what Rush has done.

Alternative ways to get fit

There’s another form of jumping into fitness that is becoming a trend and it involves a rope. Jumping rope is a great, and also fun, way of getting into shape. Whether you’re starting out or an intermediate jumper, there will always be a new challenge when it comes to the rope. Whether it be 10 consecutive jumps as a first timer or a Side Swing Double Under Pretzel, you’ll be so lost in the strive to achieve that you’ll barely even realise you’re working out. It makes for an inexpensive anywhere-anytime workout that will show results in no time. If you’re wondering where to get a rope, Mr. Price Sport has a vast range of different and affordable ropes that will get you going As for how to get started, The Jump Rope Dudes have no problem in, uhm, showing you the ropes:

Admittedly, our favourite way of burning calories is shopping, for obvious reasons. At 156 stores, our centre makes for a great space to reach that illusive 10 000 steps a day. Couple that with a Greenstone gift card and well, we just described heaven. We can only imagine that you would be so excited to get around that you wouldn’t even notice the effort that it takes to do so. So next time you need to shop an item, park on the furthest point from that store, or just do a couple laps of “window shopping”.

A resolution is only a resolution if it stays unimplemented. Once it does, it’s a habit or even a lifestyle. Hopefully you can get started on some of these tips to and make the change and indeed become the best version of YOU.
