Comic Con Africa 2019: What to Expect
It’s Comic Con Africa time! It’s our second ever and will feature in our very own city (JHB if you’re not a frequent Greenstone goer) at Gallager Convention Centre. Hopefully you’ve already bought your tickets, and we won’t go into too much detail about who’s expected to be there (if you’re a Comic Con fan, you already know).
But we would like to take a moment to show you how your experience can be enhanced with the help of good old Greenstone!
Bran Stark A.K.A Bran the Broken A.K.A The Three-Eyed Raven
For Games of Thrones fans, this will be a big one. Bran (actor Isaac Hempstead Wright) played a pivotal role in the series’ major story arc: relating to what would become of the White Walkers and who would eventually take the Iron Throne (we’re not getting into any serious spoilers so the less said the better).
But if you haven’t seen the series, now’s the time to get seriously binged on it. And where better to pick up a copy of Games of Thrones first seven seasons than at Musica – your home for all things entertainment?
And if you have seen the series, maybe it’s time to get into the books. Exclusive Books has them, and they’re not quite the same as the series. Because there’s also a lot of added detail which will help you appreciate the series that much more. Do yourself a favour and grab the first one, A Game Of Thrones by George R R Martin, today! You might also find some books on the expanded history of the series, et al.
Nolan North & Troy Baker
Both these actors have given video game history’s most stand-out characters a true voice (pun intended). You’ll know North as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series on PlayStation. He also played Desmond Miles in the first three Assassin’s Creed games – the last of which has recently been remastered. Then there’s the lesser known but awesomely good Spec Ops: The Line where he played lead as Captain Martin Walker investigating the disappearance of an entire US Army brigade during a massive sandstorm that covered Dubai.
It really is a good game, and if you can get a copy, it is totally worth playing. Actually, you might be able to get or order it from our very own BT Games. Where you can also find Assassin’s Creed III and the Uncharted series. The latter is for people who loved the recent Lara Croft incarnation.
Troy Baker, meanwhile has voiced Joel from The Last of Us, considered a monumental game, and Booker DeWitt in the plot-twisty, exciting, and imaginative game Bioshock Infinite. He also voiced the villain Pegan Min from Far Cry 4. You might still be able to get it at Incredible Connection, DionWIred, or BT Games. The later Far Cry games were great too. Well worth getting your hands on.
It’ll be interesting to hear what they have to say about the games they’re currently working on when they appear at the convention.
This man needs no introduction! He’s getting one anyway. Beaming in from the United States of A (another intentional pun), he’s best known for playing the original Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek. He was there at the very beginning, when the show broke boundaries and unleashed a new kind of creativity on the world.
It was one of the first, if not THE first, shows to feature a multi-ethnic cast playing a diverse range of characters and species (like the half-Vulcan Spock).
If there’s anything that shouldn’t be missed, it will be his appearance and the stories he’ll share on going where no man has gone before.
For your entertainment, pick up some of the original Star Trek movies from Musica (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is particularly good) and binge-watch before the event. Re-acquaint yourself with the good captain.
What will be happening.
There will be plenty of exhibitions to look forward to such as:
Comic books and graphic novels – well, duh!
Game developers – hopefully, we’ll hear about the new Avengers game coming out soon.
Indie Games – all the rage at the moment (pun unintended – Rage is a gaming convention)
Mobile accessories – things, we imagine, like Thor keyrings
Clothing / apparel – “I love Wolvie!” t-shirts, and the like
TV Networks – hopefully, somebody important sets up an exhibition about a new, exciting superhero show
Cosplay accessories – for the inner hero in you who just wants to break out in a cape
And much more!
Don’t miss it from 21 – 24 September if you’re a serious comic book or pop cultural fan!
