Manson is Back
No, not THAT Manson, thankfully.
If you’re an avid reader of our blog, by now, you’d know that we’re avid readers ourselves. Few things match the serenity of retiring to your reading nook with a fresh cup of coffee and a new book. But getting to this exact point is often the difficult part. We understand the struggle of wandering around in the book store, searching for the perfect book to drop your hard earn cash on – we find ourselves there quite often. While this, in many ways, is therapeutic in and of itself, we know that sometimes you’d just like to get in and out as quickly as possible. And this is where we come in, hopefully.
We’ve taken it upon ourselves to bring you the most anticipated releases and when we look at what is upcoming, there is one we are getting particularly excited about. It’s called Everything is F*cked – A Book About Hope by blogger-turned-author Mark Manson. You might know him from The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck – fame. In the mega-bestseller, Manson brilliantly points out how technology had made it ridiculously easy to care (GAF) about the wrong things. How our culture had persuaded us that to adopt a victim mentality and ironically how our ever-lasting search for happiness only results in us ending up unhappier. Three million people can’t be wrong – that is how many copies this book has sold making it New York Times Bestseller.
If there is one thing that Manson loves more than using asterisks on covers of books, it’s taking a counterintuitive approach to complicated, albeit sensitive topics. And we must admit, we’re big fans. This method makes for easy reading and the out-of-nowhere humour bombs keeps us coming back for more. And that is exactly what we’re doing with Everything is F*cked. Although we don’t qualify for a pre-read, the Google Play pre-hype has us all kinds of excited! According to it, Manson takes a look at our obsession with money, entertainment and once again the Internet like only he can and how too much of a good thing can psychology mess us up constantly. He draws from philosophy greats such as Plato and Tom Waits. Nothing is off limits – especially politics and religion and the way they’ve come to resemble each other.
Once again Manson will be forcing us to be more honest with ourselves in ways we haven’t considered before and we cannot wait. Whether this follow-up will be just as good as the his first book remains to be seen – but we can only hope.
*Everything is Fucked – A Book About Hope will be released globally on the 14th of May and should be in South African stores soon after. To pre-order, contact Exclusive Books directly or visit their website.
